Happy Mouth Roller, Full Cheek Snaffle
Full Cheek bits are fixed cheek bits, which may be useful for horses that are a bit unsure of the bit as it does not move around too much in the mouth. This design should encourage the horse to stretch into the contact. A fixed bit would be less suitable if your horse is prone to leaning or taking hold of the bit.
Full cheek bits are very useful for breaking in or bringing on young horses, as they help tremendously with turning aids and teach the horse to turn. The full cheek bit does not slide through the mouth as a normal snaffle would if your horse does not like to turn. This bit is particularly useful for horses that nap.
The roller mouthpiece bits have proven to be among the most popular mouthpieces. It has an oval-shaped link in the centre, made from the Happy Mouth material, which is movable and rolls around the stainless steel centre. It has two joints, which means the pressure of the bit is distributed over both the tongue and bars of the mouth. Because the mouthpiece has two joints, it should not cause any interference with the roof of the mouth.
The roller uses tongue pressure to encourage the horse to go on the bit and lower the head. It has bar and lip pressure but not a squeezing action like that of a bit with a single joint. The more joints a bit has, the less likely the horse is to lean as the bit becomes more mobile. The roller also encourages mouthing and acceptance as the horse can play with the roller and be kept content.
